Jürgen Rast elected as President of the European Association of registrars (EVS)

In October 2014, the Presidents of the member associations of the European Association of registrars met in Kassel for the annual general meeting and board elections. The Association brings together ten European countries under his roof.
These include: Belgium, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Scotland, Switzerland, Slovakia and Slovenia. With other European countries, such as Spain, there is active contact. Among others the aim of EVS is, due to strong cooperation on various levels, to demonstrate the increasingly diverse problems of different national regulations in the areas of civil status and thereby to facilitate the handling for the civil registrars with these regulations. In the General Assembly, Jürgen Rast, the President of the “Bundesverband der Deutschen Standesbeamtinnen und Standesbeamten” (BDS) and former head of the registry office Kassel was elected as the new President of EVS. As Vice Presidents, Paride Gullini, president of the Italian association and Simon Rijsdijk, president of the Dutch association were elected.

Gerhard Bangert, director of studies at the “Akademie für Personenstandswesen”, will take over the function of the General Secretary of EVS. In December last year, Jürgen Rast, Dieter Hahnel and Gerhard Bangert traveled to Castel San Pietro Terme (CSTP), Italy for the official handover. In Castel San Pietro Terme the Italian Association ANUSCA has his location. In addition to the current issues of EVS (attracting new members), the outgoing President Paridre Gullini informed about the activities in the past four years. In addition to the annual conferences, certainly both seminars in Italy, funded by the European Commission, are emphasized. More than forty professional officers and registrars from various European countries met in Italy for a two-week seminar. Next on the agenda is the Congress of EVS on 11th and 12th May 2015 in Kassel. The Congress has the slogan “changes in society – challenges for European registrars. Surrogate mothers, Duo-motherhood, Transgender and Administrative Divorce – these are just some of the topics. Other priorities are short reports from various European countries and workshops on civil status issues.

The program and registration information will be published in due time on the website of EVS (https://www.evs-eu.org/).
